France and impressionism art

At the end of the XIXth century, France witnessed the birth of a new artistic movement known today as Impressionism. This new art is carried by famous painters like Monet, Renoir, Pissarro or Cézanne. These artists traveled a lot to get inspiration and represent in their own way the world around them. Among the regions that inspired these painters, Paris and its surroundings, as well as Normandy.

I. The Seine et Marne

Not far from Paris, between flowered villages and cobbled streets from Medieval Age. These villages preserve an artistic history directly linked with impressionism. The city of Moret-sur-Loing is for example the place of inspiration of many painters like Sisley who lived there for more than 20 years. Today Moret-sur-Loing is one of the most beautiful villages in France and a true haven of peace that continues to inspire artists of our generation.

Close to Moret-sur-Loing, towns such as Barbizon still preserve an artistic charm, with numerous art galleries, the Barbizon painters’ museum, and artists’ houses.

II. Paris

The city of the arts, has many museums and exhibitions dedicated to impressionist art, such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie. Admire the paintings of the masters of art like Monet and Renoir. The Musée de l’Orangerie holds Monet’s huge Nymphéas paintings, impressive in their grandeur and the painter’s work over several years.

Paris is also a source of inspiration for many impressionists like Degas with the Paris Opera, Renoir with Montmartre or Monet and the train stations.

III. Giverny

IV. Normandy

Par excellence, the mother region of impressionism, with its inspiring landscapes and cities that welcomed many painters of the time. From the Cotentin to Etretat, admire the pieces of art preserved in the museums and then admire the landscapes that inspired them.
