Etretat located in Normandy, a few kilometers from Le Havre, is one of France’s most famous natural spots, with its impressive cliffs rising to over 90 meters high and offering exceptional panoramic views. We discovered this incredible place through a natural and relaxing stay.
We visited the town of Etretat, its seafront and pebble beach offering two incredible views. One on the cliffs d’Amont and the other on the cliffs d’Aval.
The must-sees in Etretat
We started our visit by the Aiguille Creuse path, recognizable by its distinctive shape. The path along the cliffs offers breathtaking panoramic views of the sleeve and the cliffs. Don’t hesitate to stray a few kilometers to take in the ceaseless spectacle, playing on the nuances of color between the blues of the sea, the sky and the rocks of the cliffs. The seagulls dancing in the wind make this vision of the landscape magical. Take the time to walk along the sentier du Littoral GR21 to take in the view and enjoy the magnificent panoramas of the cliffs for longer.
After returning to the town of Etretat, we begin our ascent of the cliffs d’Amont, leading to La Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, which dominates the entire horizon. The panoramas here are just as breathtaking, and the path along the coast provides access to other incredible viewpoints. For the sporty, don’t hesitate to embark on the tens of kilometers-long hike along the cliffs. Take time out to admire the view, breathe in the fresh sea air and watch the seagulls dance in the wind.

Remarkable garden in Etretat
We discover Etretat’s fabulous garden, offering a lovely view of the cliffs in the distance, and a magical setting in the heart of this natural place. Don’t be afraid to go up and down, as the garden is on the heights of Etretat, on the Amont cliffs side. Sculptures in the shape of a large head with different emotions form a playful mise-en-scène. These “Raindrops”, sculpted by Samuel Salcedo, represent different human expressions and are open to subjective interpretation by visitors.
Canoeing in Etretat
After a stroll along the cliffs Amont, we headed back down to the beach to take a canoe out on the sea and discover the cliffs from another point of view. As if alone in the world, we’re the only canoe on the sea, heading for the cliffs Aval and in particular the Aiguille creuse. The panorama is exceptional, the cliffs seem immense and the sensation of seeing this incredible spectacle from the sea is magical.
Gastronomy of Normandy
After this adventure at sea, we’ll be sampling local dishes and bringing back a few Normandy souvenirs, such as caramel, cider and cheese. After all, Normandy offers a wealth of local specialities and delicious local produce.
